Is this the most over-used cliché on reality TV?

March 12th, 2009, 12:05 pm by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Pedro watches a lot of reality TV, and you know the Watcher does too. And in our line of work, well, we do hear a lot of the same old lines show after show.

For instance, the moment you hear ANY contestant on reality TV competition show say, “There is no way I’m going home tonight,” well, guess what? Buh-bye!

But the video below may have nailed it as far as the most over-used cliche used by reality TV show contestants. I don’t care if you believe me — I’m not here to make friends — but watch the clip and see if you don’t agree.

Will Al Adams Moreno be the oldest ‘American Gladiator?’

July 29th, 2008, 4:30 pm by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

A few weeks ago, we told you about Yoko Ohigashi of Brea, who at 52 became the oldest contestant ever on ‘American Gladiators.’ She more or less got her clock cleaned by the big,  bad gladiators, but still, it was inspiring to see her out there competing.

Now comes a video from Al Adams Moreno, a 62-year-old Newport Beach-based private investigator, who send it to ‘Gladiator’ as part of his application. He’d made the show, he told us, in 1996 only to have it canceled before he got his shot.

So now he’s ready to rumble, and judging from the excerpts of a Camp Pendleton Marine Corps fitness test he included in the video, he’s one fit fellow.

Check it out and see if you don’t agree…

Adriana Posadas takes a ride on a ‘Gladiator’ treadmill

July 14th, 2008, 9:14 pm by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

2_ag.jpgAdriana Posadas trained for ‘American Gladiator’ in part with a home-made jousting stick her husband made for her. So how’d she do on the real-life joust when it came time to battle the professional gladiators?

Matched up against competitor Tatum Yount, niece of Hall of Fame baseball player Robin Yount, Posadas looked poised for a victory, racking up point after point in the preliminary rounds while Yount scored a big fat zero.

That gave Posadas a few seconds head start in the final event, the Eliminator, but she slipped out of the blocks and lost her lead almost immediately.

Still, as she and Yount reached the final portion of the obstacle course, an uphill treadmill called the Travel-ator, Posadas still had time to squeeze into the Top Six and advance in the show.

Until she fell. And fell again. And again. So close, but in the end, she and Yount, who finally made it up the treadmill, were too slow to make the next round.

Huntington Beach ‘hunk’ in jeopardy on ‘Big Brother 10′

July 14th, 2008, 11:53 am by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

jessiebb.jpgBodybuilder Jessie Godderz might be all snuggly with ‘Big Brother’ housemate Michelle Costa, but at the end of the season premiere on Sunday, the 22-year-old from Huntington Beach found himself one of two people up for possible eviction from the house and the show this week.

Godderz sat out one challenge — missing a shot at winning a vintage car — and after turning in early (apparently bodybuilders need their beauty sleep) joined in a hissy fit with housemate Renny Martyn.

And that was enough to get both Jessie and Renny nominated for eviction.

Now he’s got the Tuesday episode to try to save his skin by winning the “power of veto” or convincing its winner to use it on him. Failing that, Jessie will have to take his chances when the eviction show takes place on Wednesday.

Huntington Beach hunk on upcoming season of ‘Big Brother.’

July 8th, 2008, 11:29 am by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

jessie.jpgJessie Godderz, a 22-year-old body builder from Huntington Beach, is one of 13 contestants cast by CBS for the new season of ‘Big Brother’ that kicks off on Sunday, July 13.

He joins gay rodeo cowboy, a Hooters waitress, and a 75-year-old Korean War veteran in the house, which is actually built on a soundstage in Los Angeles, all of them there to compete for a $500,000 prize.

Godderz told the Associated Press that in addition to his work as a bodybuilder, he’s a personal trainer and model, so it makes perfect sense, we suppose, that he says that the most unique item in his suitcase were his ‘posing trunks.’

I mean, personally, we don’t go anywhere with out ours, either.

Godderz, who said he ended up on the show when is manager got a call from a casting agency, asking him to audition, said he plans to bring a few tricks of the gym to play in the show.

“I have to play psychological mind games when I walk into a gym, so I think it’ll be a little like that,” he said of his strategy.

The producers are billing this season, the 10th, as a return to the roots of the show. For the first time since the third season, all of the contestants are strangers to each other.
