‘Amazing Race’: The deck was stacked against poker stars

November 2nd, 2009, 10:15 am · 6 Comments · posted by The Watcher

Maria & TiffanyThe question of why no female team has won “The Amazing Race” was answered loudly Sunday night, when poker stars Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle were eliminated for being women.

The teams were shipped from Dubai to Amsterdam, where the Roadblock should have brought an end to Brian & Ericka. Instead, the Detour came with each half requiring major upper-body strength to complete.

The Watcher has not been much of a fan of Maria & Tiffany, but I had to admire their grit in trying each task twice before finally being rescued by Phil Keoghan out on the farm golf course and sent home for good.

The finish brought back sad memories of Lena & Kristy stuck in the hay field back on TAR6 - and coincidentally that fatal field will be revisited in the next episode. Can’t wait to see who it breaks this time.

I don’t really feel sorry for them, this is the 3rd time they have come in last, 1 where it was a non-elimination leg, 1 where the boys lost their passport and now this. Also remember the gay boys gave them the answer of the bell total so they did not even have to count them. I am always a fan of the girl teams but this team’s 3 lives were up.

I thought it was interesting that when Phil came out to the field, he said he heard that they wanted to quit, rather than telling them they were the last team. Makes me think it was going to be another non-elimination. I wonder how far behind they would have been if they had just taken the four-hour penalty?

    them on TV playing poker.

As rochelle said, there time was up in week 1. They have been living on the bad luck of others and getting by every week because of it. They were marginal players but what I found kind of funny was the comment by one of the girls when Team Zebra couldn’t figure out how to get their car going. It was something along the lines of “Those people can’t figure out a luxury car” which exactly the problem the poker players had with the golfing and ringing the bell.

There are women golfers who aren’t built like they came from the animal kingdom and ringing the bell was a physics problem. Poker players are analytical and these girls weren’t.

Next week - the infamous hay bales!

  • The Watcher says:

Solving that physics problem - increasing the head speed of the golf club or hammer - requires either greater strength, longer arms or better technique. They’re both short and slight, so it was up to them to solve the technique problem on the fly.

Of course, Maria’s efforts to ring the bell were a complete joke. I felt bad for Tiffany, whom I started to develop respect for the past couple of weeks, but Maria didn’t deserve to be on the race.
