Yoko Ohigashi, at 52, the oldest-ever contestant on ‘American Gladiator,’ fought valiantly but came up short against a 20-year-old competitor on Monday.
She failed to score points in her opening three events, jousting-over-water, wall-climbing and a race up a foam-mattress pyramid (with professional gladiators doing their best to knock her on her rear).
But after trailing competitor Annie Castellanos 10-0, Ohigashi came back strong in the Hang Tough event, scoring five points, then another four points in the Snapback.
By the time they reached the final event, the Eliminator obstacle course, Ohigashi trailed by only a point, 11-10.
In the Eliminator, though, her younger competitor finished well ahead of Ohigashi and the Brea woman was finished, beaten down by both the female gladiators and the grueling physical challenges of the events.
she performed like a 52 year old woman….best part was at the end when she got lost in the balls, guess they didn’t have Chucky Cheese when she was a kid.
Amazing effort, Yoko! Don’t listen to the critics . . . you should be very proud!
At least she had the guts to try…….do you?
Hey! It can be tricky getting out of those balls no matter what age you are! LOL. She did great, way better than I thought a 52-yr old would do.
I am proud to know you - you are a very determined competitor and have been all the years I have known you. Keep it up - don’t worry about the cholesterol you’ll live to be 100 with the stamina you exhibited on American Gladiators!!
Congratulations!! sorry I couldn’t join the party Monday night but be asured I was there in spirit.
I am sorry I missed this.
