What The World Wants To Know

August 14th, 2007, 4:15 pm · 1 Comment · posted by PETER LARSEN, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

After standing in the wilting heat and blazing sun for two parades, Pedro has never been happier to have a press conference to attend. An air-conditioned press conference.

That the world media was assembled — seriously, from as far as Kuala Lumpur, Japan, England, Germany and that part of the universe that’s home to Tiger Beat magazine — only made it more appealing.

But the best part of the whole deal — other than the genuinely cheerful and funny High School Musical 2 cast and creative crew on stage — were the questions.

“For the men or boys, can you reveal a fun fact about yourself that no one knows, and for the ladies, can you reveal how you get so gorgeous?” was the very first question of the day, and all Pedro could think was how fun it would be to flip-flop the questions from a Hollywood Q-and-A with one in Washington D.C.

“I have impeccable control over my toes,” announced President George W. — oops, that was actor Lucas Grabeel. My bad!

“Everybody on our side of the world is talking about that ‘Rolling Stone’ cover,” said a reporter from Australia to actor Zac Efron. “Are you comfortable with your new status as a sex symbol?”

His response was a combination of uh, umm, and wow, followed by his most sincere effort to act like he’d never thought about himself like that.

“How are ‘High School Musical’ fans different?” asked Tiger Beat magazine – which has been doing this kind of reporting since Pedro was a wee lad.

“They’re crazy!” answered actress Monique Coleman. “They eat, breath and sleep ‘High School Musical.’ I think there are 7-year-old girls who don’t know their parents’ birthdays but they know the date that ‘High School Musical 2′ premieres.”

Speaking of that premiere, Pedro’s gotta run and find his spot on the blue carpet, so we’ll leave you with another photo — that’s what you really want, isn’t it? — of stars Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel:
