With the pending arrival of “Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County,” we’ll welcome a whole raft of new OC reality-show stars. To celebrate, the Watcher has named the Eight Greatest OC Reality Stars. We’ll unveil one a day through Aug. 15.

NO. 3 - CHIP & KIM McALLISTER, “The Amazing Race,” season five

“The Amazing Race” sorely tested my completely arbitrary rule limiting this list to one entrant per show. Joe Baldassare and Bill Bartek - Team Guido - deserved serious consideration because of their appearance on the all-star season.

But Chip & Kim won the $1 million.

Many “TAR” fans consider season five the best of the 11 races, and Chip & Kim played no small part in that. The McAllisters played the good guys all season long, often stopping to help their competitors out of a jam, then beat out the season’s villains, Colin & Christie, in a tense final leg. Chip & Kim finished the season with an 88 percent popularity rating among viewers.
